Bridge Ratings Industry Update - CRB Decision Impact on Internet Radio Listeners

For Immediate Release

Wednesday July 13, 2007

Sunday July 15, 2007 marks the date when significant rate increases in copyright royalty rates go into effect as imposed by the Copyright Royalty Board on Internet Radio broadcasters.

July 15 is also the date that Internet Radio station owners must pay the new rates retroactively to January 2006. Internet radio broadcasters cite that these increases would decimate the Internet radio industry and put most Internet radio businesses off the air.

However, there is still hope as Congress called for a settlement roundtable for both sides to meet to discuss a settlement that provide Internet radio operators with an agreeable compromise.

Bridge Ratings questioned a national sample of 1050 Internet radio listeners over the last ten days to determine how this increase would impact them.

On June 26th, Internet Radio's "Day of Silence", we asked a different sample how they behaved when they found their favorite Internet radio station silent that day. 72% said they tuned to a station that was streaming. The follow results are from June 26th.

In this latest series of questions, the responses were similar, though a larger number of people sampled indicated that if they found that their favorite Internet radio station was permanently silenced, they would seek other streaming options as indicated in the following chart:

We also asked "How likely would you be to contact your Congressmen to ask them to intervene to find a solution that would bring your favorite Internet radio station(s) back?" Over 70% were very likely or somewhat likely to do so.

*Sample = 1050 national consumers of Internet Radio ages 13+

Methodology: Random digit dial telephone interviews, one person per household.

Sample error = +/- 3.0%
